Heart for Haïti - Please find here some information about this project (up date 23/01/10)
There are many new activities continually being added to the list. One such initiative is happening in P3N. A cookie factory donated boxes of cookies that the children can sell after school to their neighbours and friends. This initiative has the potential to raise 1000 Euros for the cause.
The kick-off Brunch, held last week at Antje van Essen's not only raised 206 Euros, but has motivated others to act. The above mentioned cookie donation came out of this. Other mother's present at this Brunch have committed to do something with their classes. P4N will also be holding a silent auction and "beauty" morning; with several mother's offering their professional services (massage, facials, pedicures, etc) for free.
We have very exciting auction donations flowing in. A date for the auction will be set next week, for either March or April. We are encouraged by the support.
Mari Holmberg and the student group Act2Aid is helping with the book drive. I am close to achieving a donation for the freight charges.
The monks, from the Salesianen Order and the Sisters from the Don Bosco order and their school ENAM are eager to come (at a later date in March or April) to talk about what this fundraising project will mean for Haiti. They run 167 schools in the slums of Haiti. All of their 167 schools were totally demolished. Since my initial contact with these orders, I have in turn reached out to all of the schools where our children have attended and have already gotten a commitment from 12 schools to sponsor at least one school. My goal is to find 167 schools to sponsor these 167 schools in Haiti.
Act2Aid has already donated 650 Euros to Heart for Haiti.
The student
government is holding a Valentine's Day chocolate sale (similar to candy cane
sales).
I spoke to the gym teachers in Secondary and Meester Leo in Primary. They
will be holding the sponsor run and sponsor swimming in the week of 8-12
February.
Christine Bonnaire very generously put together a blog for us; another private imitative which helps the cause. Karine Ben Ayoun has offered to translate the articles into either English or French.
Sandra will be plugging our efforts on Tuesday evening at the AV of the OV. She will briefly discuss the schools that we want to help.
Thanks for your interest in this project. More information will be given as soon as possible.
